Key Trends for AW17

Share

It’s officially autumn / winter 2017 which firmly marks the start of new season trends. No longer are we spending summer nights at the pub in t-shirts and shorts but, instead, we’re taking layers up a level and investing in some solid gear to get us through the colder months.

These are the four trends to note down for autumn / winter – pen (or iPhone notes) at the ready.

All the textures

KEY FABRICS:

Denim and all the faux: faux fur and suede take the lead. Polyurethane and velour are secondary fabrics with a strong focus.

KEY cOLOURS:

Rust orange, mustard yellow, neutrals, browns and warmer tones

What’s the deal?

This trend pretty much consists of all the fabrics that are relevant right now. No longer reserved for summer only, denim takes first place in this trend. Look to washed out shades that are all-year rounders with faux fur trims on jackets, extreme rips and frayed edging that add a contemporary feel to jeans.

Slogan t-shirts add some noise to your style whilst check shirts strip it back into something more casual.  Add vintage aviator jackets, oversized hoodies and padded jackets as your outerwear of choice for autumn and winter.

The 90’s grunge takeover

KEY FABRICS:

Denim is a strong focus once again. Faux leather, cotton twills and pre-worn jersey pieces are also dominating fabrics. Think skater, but more versatile.

KEY cOLOURS:

You have a little bit of everything here. From darker washes, classic black and white to bursts of vibrant colour that really lay down the punk element of the trend.

What’s the deal?

If your style rests solely in the casual region, this is the trend for you. Back in July, we set the base when it came to welcoming the tracksuit back into our lives (though, it never really went away). Colour block tracksuits are the styles you need to sport solid streetwear. Combine your fabrics and mix faux leather and jersey for even more leverage.

For the grunge aspect, pair up with oversized 90s shirts, cropped lengths and extreme distressing for a step towards Kurt Cobain territory.

Prints

Key Fabrics:

Textured knit, cord and jersey.

KEY cOLOURS:

Pave the way for camo colours: woodland khaki, earth brown, yellow, cream and organic tones.

What’s the deal?

Prints aren’t just reserved for summer only. Autumn is the time of year to welcome the return of checked prints and the solid camo print that never really left the scene. Checked shirts are a guaranteed investment to brush up on your urban wear. Camo is best served up with classic black and white pieces that firmly put the camo print at the forefront of your outfit. Look out for oversized hoods, external seams, enlarged pockets, and a clash of added textures like faux fur and shearling to reinvent the look.

Winter casuals

KEy FaBRICS:

All things comfort: nylon, jersey, washed loopback and velour.

KEY cOLOURS:

This is a toned down colour scheme compared to 90s grunge. Look out for saturated colours such as grey marl, beige and cream, whilst moss green and navy blue feed into the darker spectrum.

What’s the deal?

It’s all about capitalising on the comfort factor this season. If fashion doesn’t meet function, this trend isn’t interested. Oversized clothing is guaranteed: Textures are softer, fluffier and comfier. Look out for elongated knits, track tops, cropped ankles and bomber jackets for an athleisure take on how to get through winter. If you need some pieces to counteract this look, denim comes into play again and faux leather jackets add some edge.
