One minute it was the end of the summer, the next it’s suddenly October. Your summer holiday may have been and gone, but these 10 things to look out for will see you through this October. Featuring the most epic sci-fi sequel, a world class techno update from Google and all things sport,October is no longer reserved for Halloween.
Blade Runner 2049
The sci-fi sequel to Blade Runner (1984) hits cinemas on 6th October. Starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, Blade Runner 2049 doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint after already gaining a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. First reactions to the highly-anticipated movie from introductory screenings have claimed that it’s a sci-fi masterpiece and ‘better than the original’. The hype has been mental for this film, given it’s been 35 years since the original movie. Check out the Blade Runner 2 trailer here. Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer
Originally scheduled to launch in 2017, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been pushed back to arrive in Spring 2018 instead. Rockstar released a statement to say they are ‘firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready’. In its place, Rockstar released a second trailer for the game and has already garnered more than 3 million views in a matter of days. It seems like you’ll get your money’s worth when it finally comes out with the plotline, graphics and quality looking second to none.
Google Pixel 2 Launch Event
There’s always the battle between Mac Vs PC or iPhone Vs Android, but there’s always an underdog and we’ve found it. We’re expecting to hear about the new Pixel smartphone and the unveiling of the new Chromebook laptop at its upcoming hardware event taking place in San Francisco.
There aren’t too many leaks on exactly what the new Pixel smartphone will feature but there’s been speculation the two phones, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, will include a full high definition 1080p display and an ‘active edge’ that will enable users to launch specific apps by putting pressure on part of the device. Keep a lookout for new developments from Google around the 4th October and expect Google Pixel reviews to follow shortly after.
London NFL games
If you ever thought of going to see an American football game without a trip across the pond, now’s your chance. Get a taste of American sport as London hosts a series of NFL games. Catch the Arizona Cardinals V Los Angeles Rams on 22nd October or the Minnesota Vikings V Cleveland Browns on the 29th October at Twickenham Stadium. Buy your NFL London tickets here.
Stranger Things Series Two
Due to be released on 27th October 2017, it’s 1984 in the town of Hawkins which looks set to encounter more strange goings on. Picking up where they left off last season, the Stranger Things team have been offering a series of cryptic tweets and teaser trailers for the show in the run up. Set to be “bigger, badder and darker” it was one of the not-to-be-missed series of last year, so expect even more from the new episodes. NME have the full run down of what’s going down here. Amsterdam Dance Event
It’s a five-day electronic music festival in one of the coolest cities in Europe. Interested? Thought so. Amsterdam Dance Event (Ade) is the largest club festival in the world and spans over 450 events with more than 3,000 artists set to perform during 18th and 22nd October. Catch Joris Voorn, Joseph Capriati and Paul Kalkbrenner headlining the festival.

Can’t catch the Amsterdam Dance Event? Manchester is holding Oktoberfest on the exact dates of the Netherlands event, so if beer and Bavarian music is more your thing, head down to Albert Square on 18th to the 22nd October. Expect a giant tent for 2,000 people, a large outdoor beer garden, traditional German delicacies and waitresses dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndl. Boxing: Anthony Joshua V Kubrat Pulev
Held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on October 28th, it will be the fourth night of boxing held at the arena. Times, tickets and on-sale dates are going to be finalised within the next couple of days. Kubrat Pulev is the challenger for Anthony Joshua’s IBF heavyweight world title with the event set to be massive. Keep a lookout for new developments on the match here.
Festival of Lights, Berlin
A trip to Berlin is near enough a necessity during the Festival of Lights. Teeming with light art and creative installations, some of Berlin’s most famous landmarks, monuments and neighbourhoods light up to showcase some seriously epic light projections. You can’t miss the 13th annual light show if your insta needs a bit of a lift and you’re around in Berlin.
