Checked shirts are a universal wardrobe staple. Whether it’s tartan, checkered, gingham or plaid, a quality shirt sees you through every season. However, there’s more to checks than shirts, and there are loads of options to incorporate this pattern from head to toe.
The checked shirt
The checked shirt is one of your most versatile wardrobe options, and can take you through from casual to smart if styled correctly. Our favourite way to wear this hero piece, however, is to layer it under a t-shirt. Much more original than wearing the shirt open over a white tee, this style is both standout and laid-back. Team with joggers and trainers.
The checker board t-Shirt
This nostalgic pattern might take many back to teenage years spent listening to My Chemical Romance. An easy way to bring it out of the noughties and right up-to-date is by offsetting with colour. Pair with bright joggers, or with black jeans and a bright jacket.
The Checked Sweatshirt
This one really doesn’t need much styling. The ultimate cover-up, a sweatshirt can be thrown on in any situation. You can either go all out in full tartan, or go with a more subtle nod to the trend with a printed hoodie.
The Checked Trouser
Checked trousers are the perfect way to let some personality shine through in your outfit, and are great for those who love to stand out from the crowd. Whilst you might lean towards wearing these in an office situation, they can be styled much more casually with a tracksuit top and trainers. Be careful to avoid looking like you’re in your pyjamas by keeping the rest of your outfit muted and plain.
