The Urban Guide to Date Fashion

Share

Whatever your feelings about Valentine’s Day, there’s no denying that it’s just around the corner. If you have a date, and you haven’t already made plans, then you best fix up and look sharp because time is ticking. Got the plan in the bag, but not sure what to wear? Let us give you some tips, with our guide on what to wear for a date:

Dinner Date

You’re going for a traditional Valentine’s Day, and wooing your date over a three course meal and a nice bottle of red. If it’s somewhere really fancy then you might be feel pressured to go fully suited and booted, however, there’s no need to lose all your personality and hide your personal style.

Dress for pleasure rather than business with a smart separates combination instead. Chinos are a classic way to stay smart, and pairing them with knitwear or an oversized shirt, and smart wool coat gives this look a smart, put together feel.

Activity Date

There’s nothing worse than being stuck across a table with somebody who you have nothing to talk about with. Avoid this at all costs with an activity date – Think picnics in the countryside, hiking, a bike ride, even something really exciting like white water rafting.

For a date like this your outfit needs to be functional as well as fashionable. For a stroll through the park you can get away with a tracksuit top, some casual denim, and trainers. However, if your activity of choice is a little more strenuous, opt for a full tracksuit, and keep warm with an on-trend puffer jacket.

Day Drinking Date

If you think you’ll need a splash of Dutch courage to get through your date, then day-drinking is for you. Day drinks are a good way to get to know your date without the pressure of a formal meal.

Your outfit should give the impression that you have made an effort, but you don’t care about your appearance excessively (no girl wants a man who takes longer to get ready than she does). Distressed or ripped jeans, trainers, and a hoodie can be finished off nicely with a smart borg lined jacket.

Out-Out Date

If you think your best chance at sealing the deal is over tequilas in a sticky-floored nightclub, then organise for you and your date to go out-out. Go for a simple and stylish look that will let your dance moves do the talking.

Slim fit dark jeans, a crisp white t-shirt, and a faux leather jacket will give you a rock-n-roll edge. Adding Chelsea boots will elevate your ensemble, but this look can be worn with white trainers if the door policy at your club of choice would allow it.
