The winter skincare guide

Share

Whether you’re a lover or a loather of the chilly winter weather that’s descended upon us, the chances are your face won’t be a fan. We’ve teamed up with grüum who have pulled together everything you need to know about skincare during winter.

gruum skincare

As the UK conditions get harsher and temperatures plummet over the next week, the skins usual protective barrier is compromised. From a dry flaky face, to chapped lips, and the classic Rudolph nose; along with the cold comes a bunch of style-cramping issues we’d rather not be dealing with.

But don’t fret; a solid skincare routine can give your skin the helping hand it needs, and it doesn’t need to be complicated either. We’ve put together this men’s winter skincare guide to help keep those winter skin problems at bay.

Scrub up

Winter air is a nightmare for leaving skin looking dry and flaky, so if you aren’t already down with exfoliating, then now is the perfect time to start.

Why:

Exfoliating removes any build-up of dead cells and other nasty particles hanging around on the surface of the skin, making it appear brighter and healthier.

What:

gruum exfoliator

kóri exfoliating face wash has been specially designed to be gentle enough for everyday use, and it’s loaded with natural ingredients that work a treat on winter-ravaged skin.

How:

Start by wetting your face with warm water (not too hot, as this can dry out the skin), and apply a small amount of product (no bigger than a 10p piece) to your face with your finger-tips. Don’t scrub too hard, and focus on areas that are usually prone to dryness, like the nose and forehead.

Don’t neglect the beard

You may have seen our post on how to grow a moustache for Movember and we know a bit of facial fuzz is great for keeping your face warm, but it’s important not to neglect it in winter.

Why:

Just because the skin underneath your beard is hidden away, doesn’t mean it’s safe from the wrath of winter. Facial hair has a tendency to pull moisture away from the skin, and if left unattended, can lead to a rather annoying itch, and at worst, beard-druff.

What:

gruum beard oil

leif beard oil is formulated from a blend of natural essential oils to nourish and protect.

How:

After rinsing or washing your beard (when it’s still damp but not dripping wet), apply a couple of drops of oil into your palms, and work through your beard, making sure you get right down to the skin underneath.

Lock in the moisture

We’d hope that moisturiser is already a staple part of your daily routine, but winter is the time to seriously step up your game.

Why:

Because of all the damage to its protective barrier, the skin’s ability to retain moisture in the winter time can fall by over 25%.

What:

gruum daily moisturiser

kåre daily moisturiser is suitable for all skin-types, and has a lightweight formula that hydrates and protects the skin, without that greasy feeling.

How:

After washing your face in the morning, apply a pea-sized layer to help protect you from those unforgiving elements throughout the day.

Night-time is where the real magic happens though… Apply double the amount before you go to bed (always on a freshly washed face) to soothe and repair whilst you sleep.
